PERRYSBURG — Perennial power Perrysburg swept the singles matches on Monday in chalking up a 3-2 girls tennis win over Findlay.

Findlay took both doubles matches, including a hard-fought 6-2, 7-6 (8-6) victory at No. 2 doubles where Libby LaMaster and Madison Barberree outlasted Lexi Siefke and Grace Reiter. At No. 1 doubles, Kelsey and Ashley Coleman doubled up Julia Fujita and Mia Schmittenberg 6-3, 6-3.

Perrysburg, which finished third in the state in last year’s Ohio Tennis Coaches Association team tournament, clinched the win in singles. Sydney Onesi, in the No. 1 spot for the Yellow Jackets, topped Findlay’s Megan Earhart 6-0, 6-1, Lydia Ellinger (No. 2) beat Sydney Swisher 6-3, 6-3, and Mona Abdul (No. 3) matched that score in a 6-3, 6-3 decision over Mollie Quaid.

“I thought the girls stepped up against a really good program,” said FHS coach Sean Swisher. “The effort was there, and that’s what we’re looking for.”

Findlay, which will host Defiance in nonleague play today, fell to 1-1. The match was the first of the season for Perrsburg.
