Oregon Clay doubled up Findlay in the first set, outlasted the Trojans in the second and put them away in the third in chalking up a 25-13, 25-20, 25-15 victory on Tuesday in a Three Rivers Athletic Conference match at Findlay High.

Shannon Klotz and Jess Tremains had five kills each for Findlay (2-6, 1-2 TRAC). Ashleh Robinson led the Trojans with 15 assists and Kylie Britton had 11. Claire Doepker had a team-high nine digs.

TCC tops tennis

Toledo Central Catholic has won three straight Three Rivers Athletic Conference girls tennis titles and the depth and the strength of the Fighting Irish program was on full display at the Findlay High Courts on Tuesday with a straight-set 5-0 win over the Trojans.

Findlay’s doubles teams rebounded from first-set shutouts with solid second-set play. Senior twins Kelsey and Ashley Coleman fell 6-0, 7-5 to Bella Spinazze and Molly Mattimore at No. 1 doubles, while Katie Short and Miyu Uchiyama (No. 2) lost 6-0, 6-4 to TCC’s Grace Cowell and Bridget Bremer.

Central Catholic (9-2, 4-1 TRAC) dropped just two games in three singles matches. Ava McQuillin (No. 1) beat Megan Earhart and Lucia Spinazze (No. 3) blanked Mollie Quaid by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Ellie Hire topped Sydney Swisher 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.

TCC improved to 9-2 overall and 4-1 in the TRAC, while Findlay fell to 8-5, 2-3 in the TRAC.

Clay edges boys soccer

OREGON — Oregon Clay’s Keegan Calkins scored the game’s lone goal midway through the first half and the Eagles held on to post a 1-0 victory over Findlay on Tuesday in a Three Rivers Athletic Conference boys soccer matchup.

Clay (5-2-2, 2-1 TRAC) had a 10-4 edge in shots on goal. Trevor Jurski made four saves to get the shutout.

Jack Kenny stopped nine of Clay’s shots on goal. The loss dropped Findlay to 3-4-1 overall, 1-2 in the TRAC.
