OLIVET, Mich. — Bluffton University freshman and Liberty-Benton graduate Sammy Shardo drained five 3-pointers and scored a team-high 17 points as the Beavers used a 22-15 fourth-quarter advantage to edge Olivet 62-59 in a nonleague women’s basketball game Saturday.

Brianna Gillig and Nora Hemminger (McComb) both added 12 points for Bluffton (2-0). Gillig had team-highs of nine rebounds and two blocks, while T.J. Mills dished out a game-high seven assists.

Bluffton finished the final 42 seconds on a 6-0 run to secure the win. The Beavers shot 86 percent (18 of 21) from the free throw line, while Olivet (1-1) shot 78 percent (7 of 9) from the line.

DeeDee Post had 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead Olivet. Fayth Talbert added 12 points and four blocks.

Bluffton men win

NEW WILMINGTON, Penn. — Four Bluffton University players scored in double figures Saturday as the Beavers’ men’s basketball team rolled past Thiel 83-58 on the second day of the Buzz Ridl Classic.

Andrew Renner had 18 points, while Jameel Cosby and Dezman Brown (seven rebounds) both added 15 points for Bluffton (1-1). Isaiah Taylor chipped in 14 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Daquan Simmons had a game-high 22 points to lead Thiel (1-3).
