FORT JENNINGS — Columbus Grove could have started to clear a space for the Putnam County League girls basketball championship trophy before the first half was even over.

Columbus Grove raced to a 27-10 first-quarter lead, boosted the margin to 55-16 at the half and clinched at least a share of the 2019-20 PCL girls basketball title on Monday with a 78-47 romp over Fort Jennings.

Kenzie King filled the stat sheet for Grove, 14-3 overall and 6-0 in the PCL. The sophomore guard bombed in six 3-pointers and scored 18 points, hauled in six rebounds, dished out seven assists and had four steals.

Angel Schneider tossed in 16 points, Abby Gladwell (4 steals) had 14 and Erin Downing (5 steals) added 10 for the Bulldogs, who can claim the PCL title outright in a Feb. 15 game at Pandora-Gilboa.

Kristen Luersman was a perfect 7-for-7 from the line and scored a game-high 25 points for Fort Jennings (2-15, 1-5 PCL).

ADA — Ridgmont’s Amanda Howland poured in 26 points on Monday in leading the Gophers to a 60-36 win over Ada in nonleague girls basketball action.

Callie Cromer and Hannah Shoffner both added 10 points for Ridgemont. The Gophers (4-10) took a 17-5 lead after one period of play and were up 29-10 at the half.

Kylie Acheson hit three 3-pointers and led Ada with nine points. Courtney Sumner and Miranda Wills added seven points each for the Bulldogs (5-11).

PH gymnasts fourth

PERRYSBURG — Patrick Henry’s Hailee Baird placed sixth in the all-around standings in leading the Patriots to a fouth-place finish overall in the Perrysburg Gymnatics Invitational on Monday.

Patrick Henry scored 93.95 points in the meet to finish behind Perrysburg, Liberty Center and Springfield in the 10-team meet.

Baird was fifth on the uneven bars (8.25), sixth on vault (8.1), seventh on balance beam (8.05) and eighth on floor exercises (8.75) for an all-around toal of 33.15.

PH’s Laila Rutter was tenth on bars (8.0).

ONU’s Bartlome named

ADA — Ohio Northern University senior Brandon Bartlome has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week.

Bartlome upped his record to 16-10 by placing third in the 133-pound weight class at the Alma (Mich.) Open. Bartlome had a pin and two technical falls in posting a 5-1 record in the tournament.
