ANDERSON, Ind. — New Riegel graduate Brianna Gillig had a double-double Tuesday to lead Bluffton University’s women’s basketball team past Anderson University 47-41 in the first round of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament.

Bluffton, now 14-12, advanced to the HCAC semifinals where the Beavers will play at 1 p.m. Saturday at No. 1 tournament seed Transylvania, ranked No. 11 in NCAA Division III.

Gillig had her 10th career double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Nora Hemminger (McComb) scored seven points. Emma Saltzman (Arcadia) and Morgan Smith (Arlington) each had six rebounds.



ADA — Abby Weeks scored a career-best 18 points Tuesday as Ohio Northern University’s women’s basketball team beat Mount Union 58-50 in the Ohio Athletic Conference tournament quarterfinals at the ONU Sports Center.

The Polar Bears (20-6) advanced to Thursday’s 7 p.m. OAC semifinal at John Carroll, ranked 25th in NCAA Division III.

Mount Union trimmed ONU’s lead to 54-50 with less than a minute to play, but Weeks and Sydney Ward each hit a pair of free throws to ice the game.

Weeks had five rebounds and three steals. Ward added nine points and five rebounds, and Alissa Stahler and Lexi Jacobs both had eight points.
