James Wellman has been named chief information officer for Blanchard Valley Health System.

Wellman, a certified health care chief information officer, will be primarily responsible for overseeing the strategy and development of the Information Technology Department and will join the other members of Blanchard Valley Health System’s Executive Steering Council.

He began his education at the University of Louisville where he completed a bachelor’s degree in workforce leadership. He earned a master’s degree in health care administration at Oklahoma State University and eventually earned certification as a health care chief information officer from the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives.

For the past nine years, Wellman has been the chief information and compliance officer for a county hospital in Oklahoma.

He has 30 years of experience working in health care information technology, beginning his career at the University of Kentucky HealthCare, where he worked for 21 years.
