Festival of Fish canceled

VERMILION — COVID-19 forced another town to scale back on its yearly festivities. The Vermilion Chamber of Commerce announced Monday it would postpone the 54th annual Festival of Fish after Mayor Jim Forthofer informed the chamber the city would not allow any events to take place in June. "We are sincerely sorry for any inconvenience and will continue to work to safely hold this event in 2020," the chamber's news release states. The Festival of Fish is among a growing list of events that the pandemic has postponed or canceled — including the Walleye Festival, Ohio Bike Week, River Festival and Basket Festival — due to restrictions on large gatherings and social distancing guidelines. The chamber and the festival's committee will announce a new date for the event once Gov. Mike DeWine provides more guidance on how events can take place.
