Let go of your old Lego

The Mazza Museum, located at the University of Findlay in the Virginia B. Gardner Fine Arts Pavilion, has teamed up with Findlay City Schools to create a student-centered partnership where university students studying science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics can come together with the college students of tomorrow and work on problem solving. The museum is seeking donations of unused Lego bricks for for both students and visitors to use for hands-on projects at the Joseph and Judith Conda STEAM Education Center, opening this coming September within the museum. The museum is accepting Lego donations through Friday. Legos should be contained within a sac or bag and can be any size, shape or color. All Legos will be accepted and made use of, but the museum would particularly like to acquire retro Legos. When teachers of Findlay City Schools were asked about projects that students would be the most interested in and find useful, many of them mentioned Legos. "You can create almost anything with a Lego," mentioned Heather Sensel, education coordinator of Mazza Museum. "It's a creative tool that immerses kids in hands-on collaboration." Activities will develop with artwork in mind, with a strong focus on pictures books that can be found within the museum. The museum is home of the world's largest collection of original art by children's book illustrators. Recycling was emphasized by Sensel, who ensures that "you can always upgrade and make something better." Legos will be used for a wide variety of hands-on projects, including engineering, print painting and constructing models such as a dream house or car. They will also be utilized within classrooms at local schools.
