Get out and vote

What happens at your city, village or township hall is likely to affect you more than anything done in Columbus or Washington. Local elected officials are the ones who can pursue local tax measures affecting you directly, via your property taxes or, sometimes, income taxes. This makes it all the more important to be active and engaged in elections like the one happening this Tuesday. Even if this election, a primary, might not feature any big-ticket races or headline-grabbing issues, it's still something you should participate in. And while, depending on where you live, you might or might not even have local issues to vote on, you're guaranteed to be voting on State Issue 2 — a measure that, if approved, would generate $2.5 billion in state funds that will be distributed to local governments for infrastructure projects; fixing roads, bridges and the like. For us, it doesn't matter how "big" or "small" an election is perceived — we want people to vote at every possible opportunity. Democracy is the cornerstone of our nation, and you shouldn't forget it's a privilege that not everyone on planet Earth has. Early voting is already underway.
