Coleman, cash and an upset

Outspending Holly Frische on the campaign trail helped newcomer Nichole Coleman upset the incumbent for the Republican nomination for Findlay City Council's 1st Ward seat in the May primary. Coleman's campaign committee spent $4,882; Frische spent $341 out of her own pocket for advertisements, mailing and post cards. Since its last report two weeks before the election, Coleman's committee reported spending $3,267 for website setup and hosting; and designing of yard signs and mailers; $691 for radio advertising; $450 for marketing consulting; and $158 for campaign T-shirts. Coleman's campaign received a total of $5,050 in monetary contributions. Contributions reported since the campaign's previous filing two weeks before the election were made by: Frank Guglielmi, $500; Cheryl Buckland-Manley, Todd James and Charles Clapper, each $100; and James Schuh, Mary Beth Hammond, David Glass, Carrie Glass, $50 each. Other highlights BJ Preston's campaign spent $4,944 in winning the Republican nomination for the 2nd Ward City Council seat. It received $5,375 in monetary contributions over the entire campaign. It spent $2,760 since its last report two weeks before election day – most of it for food for a meet-and-greet event – the committee reported. Contributions in the final weeks of the campaign were received from Frank Guglielmi, $500; Carolyn Copus, $100; and Charles Clapper, $50. The campaign for the winner in the race for the Republican nomination for the 6th Ward seat on City Council – Rodney Phillips – spent $4,078. It received $4,425 in contributions. Contributions since the committee's last filing weeks before the election came from: David and Carrie Glass, $100; Sean Abbott, $75; Christopher and Mary Hammond, $50. At-Large Bradley Wagner's campaign spent $4,336 seeking his nomination by Republicans for an at-large seat on Findlay City Council in the May primary election. Wagner's only expenditure since his finance report two weeks before the primary was $105 for a campaign ad in a print media outlet. His campaign was entirely self-funded. Heather Kensinger's campaign spent $4,061 seeking her nomination by Republicans for an at-large seat in the May primary election. Since its report prior to the election, the campaign committee reported spending $813. Most of that, $600, was a loan repayment to Kensinger. A promotion at a Hancock County Republican Party event cost $100; a website program was $72. Kensinger's campaign received $1,875 in contributions overall. Since its earlier preelection report, the campaign reported a $150 contribution from Thomas Drake. L. Reed Needles' campaign spent $1,747 seeking his nomination by Republicans for an at-large seat on Findlay City Council. Since it's report filed before the election, it reported spending $726 in the final days of the campaign, nearly all of it for campaign post cards, mailers and postage. The campaign received a total of $1,775 in contributions over the course of the campaign. Contributions received since the committee's last report, about two weeks before election day, were from Patricia Needles, $300; Susan Boyce, $150; and Sean Abbott, $100.
