rahe, marleneWEBMarlene L. Rahe, 75, of Findlay passed away at 4:20 p.m. on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at Birchaven Village, Findlay. Marlene was born on October 18, 1939, to the late Nicolas and Gertrude (Grove) Kauffman in Fostoria. She married Ronald Rahe on June 28, 1957.
Marlene was a former World Champion baton twirler, teacher, and judge. She was an instructor in Findlay for fifty-four years. During her career Marlene taught over 8,000 students from all over the state. At the age of fourteen she won the Jr. World Championship and was inducted into the Twirling Hall of Fame. Marlene went on to judge competitions around the United States for eleven years straight, and she was the Chief Judge at the United States Twirling Associations National Competitions. Marlene was the first feature twirler for the Findlay High School Band. Many will remember her daughters Janet and Kelly who followed in their mother’s footsteps to also become feature twirlers at Findlay High School. Both girls went on to twirl at BGSU. Kelly taught students for her mother for thirty-three years. Over the years Marlene had a student that was the Golden Girl at Purdue and a student that went on to be the Drum Major at Ohio State.
Marlene loved children and got great pleasure out of watching them succeed. Marlene retired in 2009. She will be remembered for all the competitions she held for students, and for 45 years of parades her corps. marched in Findlay.
Marlene is survived by her husband of 57 years, Ronald Rahe, a football standout at Findlay College; her three daughters: Teresa Parsons of Fort Myers, FL, Janet Rahe of Findlay, and Kelly Wilson of Estero, FL; seven grandchildren: Nathan, Lauren, and Garrett Babb of Huntington, WV, Jared Babb of Fairborn, OH, Brooke Wilson of Houston, TX, Brock Wilson of Findlay, and Brittany Wilson of Alexandria, VA; and two great-grandchildren: Aubry and Harper. She is also survived by her sisters: Beverly (John) Hope of Higley, AZ, Patricia Richard of Findlay, Sharon (Gary) Eckenrode of Findlay; and brother, James (Brenda) Kauffman of Peoria, AZ.
Visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 p.m. on December 11, 2014 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay, where a scripture service will be held at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on December 12, 2014 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Bright Road, Findlay. Rev. Msgr. Michael Hohenbrink will be celebrant and burial will follow in Knollcrest Cemetery, east of Findlay.
