Joyce Ann Swope, 82 of rural Cygnet died at 10:05 p.m. on Monday, December 29, 2014 at the Heritage Inn, Bowling Green. She was born in Wood County on February 17, 1932 to the late Fred and Kathleen (Eckelbarger) Meeker.
On September 16, 1950 she married Roger Swope and he survives along with two children; William (Patti) Swope of Perrysburg and Sue (Bryan) Perry of Lima. She is also survived by two grandchildren Tyler (Hannah) Perry of Tulsa, OK and Kaley Perry of Lima. Joyce was preceded in death by two brothers; Robert and John Richard Meeker and a sister Betty Perry. Joyce worked as a secretary for the Music Library and Pop Culture Library at Bowling Green State University for 30 years. She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd United Methodist, North Baltimore. Joyce loved Christmas, collecting Santa Claus’ and enjoyed gardening. She was one of the last survivors of the June 1953 tornado that destroyed Wood County.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 2, 2015 from 2:00 – 4:00 & 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at SMITH-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, North Baltimore. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at SMITH-CRATES FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Susan Kronbach officiating. Burial will follow in Ten Mile Cemetery.
