kratzerJanet Louise Kratzer (nee Donnell), died peacefully at her home in Jensen Beach, Florida surrounded by her beloved family, pets, art, books and quilts, on March 9, 2016. Janet was born at home in Houston, Ohio on March 23, 1934 to Cloyce Vernon and Margaret (nee Blossom) Donnell. Janet graduated from Leipsic High School and enjoyed annual reunions with her remaining classmates. After attending two years at Bowling Green State University, Janet graduated with a Bachelor of Nursing from the Ohio State University.
After a brief stint in Tallahassee, Florida and five years in Dayton, Ohio at the Dayton Children’s Psychiatric hospital, Janet had a respected 18 year career at Sinai Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. She also spent two summers serving as the camp nurse at Camp Tamakwa in Algonquin Park, Ontario Canada. After moving to Anaheim, California, Janet married her high school sweetheart, Ralph, in 1986; and continued her education to receive a Clinical Nurse Specialist degree at UCLA. When she and Ralph moved back east to Findlay, Ohio, she then went on to receive her Masters in Nursing; and then her Nurse Practitioner license from the Ohio State University. While living in Findlay, Janet was active in the choir of the First Presbyterian Church, and sang with the Findlay Area Community Choir.
Janet and Ralph made a permanent home in Jensen Beach, Florida in 2001.
While not really retiring, Janet was actively traveling to Hawaii and volunteering for Visiting Nurses of Florida, Volunteers of Medicine and was past president of the Martin County League of Women Voters.
Janet is predeceased by her parents, Cloyce and Margaret; and her husband, Ralph Kratzer. Janet is survived by her brother, Larry (Kathy) Donnell; her children: Linda (John) Birchmeier of Ashley, Ohio; Christopher (Marc) Barillas of New York, NY; Bruce (Jennifer) Barillas of Pensacola, FL; her grandchildren: Michael (Linnea) Birchmeier of Columbus, OH and Ashley (Mark) Bauer of Dublin, OH; and her great-grandchildren: Robert Birchmeier, Allen Birchmeier, Katelyn Bauer, and Brendan Bauer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 19, 2016 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Findlay. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2016 at the funeral home.
