stearnsBLOOMDALE — Jack L. Stearns, age 86, of Bloomdale, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Wednesday (April 6, 2016) surrounded by his loving family at the Bridge Hospice Care Center in Bowling Green, Ohio. He was born on October 16, 1929 near Fostoria to the late Lewis B. & Nina (Pelton) Stearns. Jack married Patty Jean Singleton on August 19, 1956 at the Union United Methodist Church near Fostoria.
Surviving Jack are his loving wife of 59 years, Jean; son, Michael J. (Robin) Stearns of Bloomdale; sister-in-law, Velma Stearns of Bloomdale; grandchildren, Jacob Stearns, Jack Waldock, Tom Waldock, Brittany Swiecicki, Adam Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis & Nina; daughter, Jodie L. Stearns; brother, Gene L. Stearns; sister, Ila Mae Foster Joseph.
Jack was a 1947 graduate of Fostoria High School, and then worked all his life as a self employed farmer. He also worked for Perry Township for 13 years as the Road Superintendent, and worked 20 years as a company salesman at the former Brough Stone Company; now known as the Gerken Materials Inc in West Millgrove. Lastly, over the years Jack worked for Bowling Transportation. He was a lifelong member of the Union United Methodist Church near Fostoria, and among many hobbies his greatest joys in life were restoring and collecting antique John Deere Tractors, caring for his horses, and spending time with his family.
Friends will be received from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday (April 10, 2016) at Barndt Funeral Home in Wayne, Ohio where a Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday (April 11, 2016) at 11 a.m., with Pastor Marla Brown officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, near West Millgrove.
Memorial donations may be made to Union United Methodist Church or the Bridge Hospice Care Center in Bowling Green.
