PERRYSBURG — Lois M. Hitchner, 94 of Perrysburg, Ohio passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at the Heartland of Perrysburg. She was born on the McComb, Ohio family farm on June 25, 1923 to the late Harry and Inez Moorehead.
Lois was a 1941 graduate of McComb High School and also Davis Business College. She was employed for years at the Libbey Owens Ford Employment Office in Rosssford, Ohio and retired on April 1, 1988.
After retirement, Lois became caregiver to the Sladky and Dariano families. Both families treated Lois more like family and that meant a great deal to her.
Lois’s family would like to extend a very special thank you to two families that they will never know. Due to their generous beliefs about organ donations, Lois received cornea transplants that saved her eyesight. Because of having Fuchs Dstrophy, she was in need of two cornea transplants which were done on April 12, 1994 and March 15, 1995. These transplants saved her sight and she was able to see her great-grandchildren being born and and watch them grow up.
Due to dementia, Lois became a resident at Heartland of Perrysburg and then under the care of Heartland Hospice.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her son Richard Hitchner; brothers Morris and Ted Moorehead; nephew David Terry; brother-in-law E. Dale “Red” DeMars. She is survived by her daughter Mary Hogan; sisters Rachel Terry and Marcella DeMars; granddaughters Julie (BC) Helton, Becky (Brandon) Johnson and Lynne (Peter) Hogan-Kuntz and five great-grandchildren; nephews Frank Terry and family and Philip Terry and family; Mary Schroll and other Moorehead relatives. She also was known as “Aunt Lois” to Tina Hoxworth and family and to TJ Aunger and family. As according to Lois’s wishes there was a private burial was at the Union Cemetery in McComb, Ohio.
Memorial contributions for Lois may be made to the Cherry Street Mission, Toledo, Ohio or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
