James “Jim” Melick, 78, of Fort Mohave, Arizona, passed away December 22, 2017 at Havasu Regional Medical Center. Born in Tiffin, Ohio, the youngest of three sons to Ernest and Helen (Dildine) Melick. Jim resided over forty years in the Findlay and New Riegle, Ohio areas until moving to Arizona in 2005.
Jim married Barb Lane in 1961, and had two sons, Jeffrey and Stephen. He later married Darlene Fruchey. Jim was joined in marriage to Ladora Jordan in 1987, celebrating 30 wonderful years together.
Jim joined the U.S. Army in 1957 and was honorably discharged in 1964. Jim worked for UPS for 15 years, the first 13 as a delivery driver and the last two years in management. Jim then opened Channel One Video, where he was owner/operator, composing videos of local Tiffin, Ohio events. Jim spent time in the automotive industry, retiring as parts manager from Findlay Ford.
Jim had a passion for photography and also loved his electronic toys. A love for animals all his life, Jim raised various dogs and cats, with a soft spot for neighborhood strays. Jim enjoyed what he joked was his “job,” feeding slots, at local casinos. Jim was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Tiffin, Ohio. After moving to Arizona, he became a member of Mohave Valley United Methodist Church. Jim was an organ donor, his wish to help others after his passing.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Ladora, his brother Frank (Joyce) of Lancaster, OH, his five children, Jeffrey (Ellen) Melick of Hudsonville, MI, Stephen Melick of Findlay, OH, Sheila (Raul) Mendoza of Yuma, AZ, Leutrecia Woodman of Barrington, NH, Melissa Jordan of Lake Havasu City, AZ, ten grandchildren, Justin, Paige, Lei, Amanda, Krystina, Justin, Jordan, Jace, Angelina, Marc, and one great grandson, Theodore.
A small memorial gathering will be held at Mohave Valley United Methodist Church at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mohave Valley United Methodist Church, 1593 E. Lipan Blvd., Fort Mohave, AZ 86426.
