Robert “Bob” William Hildreth, 89, died on March 7, 2018 at the Heritage. He resided at 1020 Hurd Avenue for 56 years before moving to the Heritage Estates with his wife Ann in 2016.
Robert William Hildreth was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on December 1, 1928 to George and Dorothy Hildreth. His childhood was spent in multiple cities throughout the U.S. as his father was transferred by Remington Arms. Bob graduated from Ilion High School in Ilion, New York in 1947. He attended Alfred University in New York. In 1950 he was drafted into the Army and served in the Korean War. In Ft. Worth Texas in 1952, Bob converted to Catholicism. Shortly after, he moved to Findlay where he met Ann Norine Murphy. They were married in August of 1952 at Saint Michael Church and raised seven children together.
Bob was a faithful servant at Saint Michael Parish. He served in many roles such as on Parish Council where he nominated the first two women as candidates to Council. He served as an usher, as a Eucharistic Minister at the hospital, and a member of the Bereavement Team. He formerly served funeral masses and was a Hospice Volunteer. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and of the Third Order Franciscans. He assisted coordinating Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament for 30 years. Bob worked as an insurance salesman for the Knights of Columbus. He later retired after 25 years from Whirlpool Corporation.
Bob was a man who loved people, especially his family. He called his children and grandchildren regularly to hear their stories and visited them to attend games and concerts. He especially loved to watch Notre Dame football with his sons and grandsons. An expert conversationalist, Bob was known for keeping family gatherings active. Bob’s family often joked that he wanted everything done not now, but yesterday. Bob was outgoing; he often visited friends, parish members and the sick at home and in the hospital until he was 88 years old. His voice will be missed by all who knew him as a father, grandfather and friend.
Bob is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ann, and by their seven children:
Mary Ann (Daniel) Bernier, Pat (Michael) Wolford, John (Nancy), Kathy (Chuck) Beatty, Ed (Kathy), Betzy (Steve) McMaster and Steve (Gina). Bob has thirteen devoted grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Bob is preceded in death by both of his parents, and his two brothers, James and David.
