McCOMB — Leon R. McDowell, 78, of McComb, Ohio passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at Blanchard Valley Hospital, Findlay, Ohio surrounded by his loving family.

Leon was born to the late Marlowe and Lorena (Tussing) McDowell. He married the love of his life Connie Thomas on November 20, 1959 in the Pleasant Hill Bible Church and she preceded him in death on July 27, 2011. Leon is survived by his children: Gail ( Bob) Schoonover of Benton Ridge, Sherri (Scott) Brannan of McComb and Kevin (Bonnie) McDowell of Deshler; grandchildren: Eric (Jenn) Barrett, Heather (Dan) Herwig, Katie Brannan, Tony (Kelly), Jonathan (Kim) and Cody Schoonover; step-grandchildren: Becky and David Caudill; great-grandchildren Elliott and Grant Barrett, Lincoln and Owen Schoonover; step-great-grandchildren: Jeremiah and Hannah Caudill and siblings: Judy Yarnell of Las Vegas, Nevada, Sandy (Steve) Welch and Ronnie (Judy) McDowell of Findlay and Roger (Marilyn) McDowell of McComb; sister- in-law Dee McDowell; Connie’s family :Linda Doolittle, Jean McGuire, Mary Thomas, Jim (Dorothy) Thomas. He was preceded in death by his brother Darryl McDowell and brother-in law Don Thomas.

Leon was a 1958 graduate of McComb High School and worked in the maintenance department at Whirpool in Findlay. Leon enjoyed camping especially at Lake Erie and Indian Lake. Leon also had a love for boating, fishing and traveling. Connie and Leon took many cruises and travelled all around. The most important part of Leon’s life was his family, especially his grandchildren who were his pride and joy. Leon always made it a point to attend their sporting, musical and other activities that they were in. Leon was especially proud that Katie will be the valedictorian for the McComb class of 2018.

Visitation for Leon will be on Monday, April 16, 2018 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. in the HARTLEY-HANNEMAN FUNERAL HOME, 370 Park Dr S., McComb, Ohio 45858. Additional visitation will be on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Leon’s funeral service at 11:00 a.m. in the HARTLEY-HANNEMAN FUNERAL HOME, with Pastors Kimberly Reese and Richard Hilitiran officiating. Leon will be reunited with his loving wife Connie in the McComb Union Cemetery.

The family would like to send their deepest gratitude to the nurses and doctors at the Blanchard Valley Hospital and also to the Armes Cancer Center for the care they showed Leon.
