Gary Clayton Shepherd, 53, of Findlay, Ohio, passed away, after a long illness. The son of Gary and Joyce (Kail) Shepherd (both deceased), Gary enjoyed a life of experiences and adventures. He attended school in both Findlay, OH and Prestonburg, KY where he graduated high school. He had a brief stint of college life attending the University of Kentucky where he played football before attending Findlay College when he returned to Ohio. He spent several years working in the sprint car scene where he enjoyed his time working with Mark Christman and the Christman Racing Team. He traveled to many places with the All Star Circuit of Champions. His friends all knew him as “Carl”. He worked at Brandy’s Night Club for many years as a DJ/Security Staff member until he found his new passion in the field truck driving. He drove commercially for several years and drove for NHRA driver Connie Kalitta hauling their top fuel dragster and his nephew Doug Kalitta hauling his USAC spring car. Gary had a love for games of chance and skill. He was an avid poker player, bowler, pool player, golfer and fisherman. He was a huge music fan and worked as security at concert venues.
Gary had a love for cats and pets in general. He was ambassador of good will at the Fox Run nursing home where he resided for the last several years. He was the welcoming committee for new residents, president of the residents’ board and the cat whisperer taking care of pets whenever possible. He touched the lives of so many people in many ways. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by Uncle Tom Wilson of Prestonburg, KY; Aunt Rosemary Shepherd of Sterling, KY; Aunt Cheryl (Kail) and Uncle Steve Bowman of Upper Sandusky, OH; and cousins Pam (Wilson) Ray of Prestonburg, KY; Tommy Wilson of Crosslanes, WV; Chester Alan Shepherd of Mt. Sterling, KY; Richard Grau of Gallopolis, OH; Kelley (Stinehelfer) Dersch of Blackick, OH; Laura (Bowman) Panno of Columbus, OH and Ryan Kail of Upper Sandusky, OH and self-adopted daughter Caitlin M. Egbert of Findlay, OH.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 21 at Fox Run Manor starting from 2:15 to 3 p.m. followed by a celebration of life at The Moose Lodge, 1028 W. Main Cross St., Findlay, OH from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
