Dorothy (Dottie) Bell MacLaren, 92, of Sunrise Assisted Living, passed away on Monday, December 31, 2018 at Birchaven Rehabilitation Center. Dottie was born on June 28, 1926 in Battle Creek, Michigan to the late Daniel and Frances (Steedman) Holtom. She married Donald Bell on October 6, 1945, and he preceded her in death. In June of 1986, Dottie was united in marriage to Robert MacLaren in Houston, Texas and he also preceded her in death.

Dottie was a 1944 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School in Battle Creek. She worked in several retail positions with Jacobson’s in Battle Creek, McAlpin’s in Cincinnati, and Lasalle’s in Findlay. She also owned the Sign of the Bell Antique Shop in Houston, TX. Dottie was very active in the Altrusa Club of Findlay, a member of Toastmistress Club and a member of First Presbyterian Church in Findlay and Spring Woods Methodist Church in Houston. She was an avid bridge player and golfer. She enjoyed her travels to Europe and loved her many visits to Hawaii and Florida, especially their beautiful beaches!!

Dottie is survived by her two daughters, Caryle Freece and Janet (Ray) Frech both of Findlay; her loving grandchildren, Erica (Chad) Main of North Baltimore, Sarah (Sean) Frech of Austin, TX, Emily (Tyler) Zeto of Indianapolis, and Brent Freece of Chicago, IL; and great-grandchildren, Hannah and Ryan Main, Sophie, Asa and Conor Huitt, Trevor, Carter and Gabriella Zeto. She is also survived by her sister, Helen Hammond of Saginaw, MI; her brother, Dan (Julie) Holtom of Sun City Center, FL, and her step-son, Art (Del) MacLaren of Dallas, TX. Dottie was preceded in death by her sister, Joann Bronk of Battle Creek, MI.

Many thanks and “kisses” to the caring staff of Sunrise for their love and care of Mom while she lived there. Also, thank-you to the kind staff of Birchaven Rehab Center (Ivy and Juniper) during her short stay, to the Hospice team involved in Mom’s care and Hanco EMT for their kindness.

Friends and family may visit on Sunday, January 13, 2019 from 2-5 p.m. at HUFFORD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 1500 Manor Hill Rd, Findlay (419-422-1500). A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 14 with one hour of visitation (10-11 a.m.) prior to the service. Reverend Linda Davidson will officiate. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.
