Walter Wayne Crum, Jr., 85, of Findlay, passed away at 10:45 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at Blanchard Valley Hospital. He was born on July 23, 1934, in Scipio Township, Seneca County, Ohio to the late Walter Wayne, Sr. and Hazel Caroline (Weber) Crum. He first married Gwen Cooksey, and she preceded him in death. He then married Sue Ellen Bird-Dietsch on December 23, 1995, and she survives.
Walter is also survived by his sons: Scott (Brenda) Dietsch of Leipsic, and Terry (Patricia) Dietsch of Perry, GA; his daughter, Laurie (Duff) Altman of Deshler; 3 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; his sister, Ruth Freed of Findlay; and many nieces and nephews.
Walter was a 1952 graduate of Van Buren High School. He worked for and retired from Marathon Petroleum as a design engineer and was a member of Salem United Methodist Church. Walter served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the 11th Bombardment Group of the U.S. Air Force, visiting Hawaii for over 30 years. Walter loved going fishing on Lake Erie, and was an avid reader of all things, but especially WWII history.
Visitation for Walter will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2020, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 18, at the funeral home. Pastor Ron Hoeksema will officiate and the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad will provide full military rites.
