UP: Dollar General has replaced the former Appleseed IGA grocery store in Arlington and has a steady flow of happy customers. A fixture of Arlington with roots going back to 1907, Appleseed IGA closed last summer. No one knew what “” if anything “” would replace the store.

Down: Some Christmas Grinches are trying to steal Christmas right off the porches of area residents. Nearly every day in the Public Record of law enforcement media reports, local and area residents are reporting packages being stolen from their porches.

UP: Shop with a Cop is helping 143 children selected for the 18th annual event. Dozens of officers from the Findlay Police Department, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office and the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office are each taking a child, who is given $200 to shop, made possible by local donations from individuals and businesses in Hancock County. Throughout the history of the program, 2,000 children have benefited from the program.

UP: Fostoria again stepped up and made A Christmas for Every Child in Fostoria possible. Parents and guardians were surrounded by the season of giving as they walked through the gym at the Geary Family YMCA, collecting gifts for their youngsters that they wouldn’t have been able to provide without the community’s help. This was the 16th annual toy store, serving about 400 area children and offering a chance for their families to shop for Christmas presents, which they might not have had otherwise.

UP: Hancock Leadership Alumni Association hosted its annual Coats for Christmas campaign in the gym at Glenwood Middle School recently. Organizers say about 2,445 used coats were donated by community members and cleaned by City Dry Cleaning, with about five bags of brand-new coats donated. Coats, along with gloves and mittens, hats, scarves and blankets, were distributed to area residents with no financial restriction for eligibility.
