America 250 and pet care this week at the library

The Findlay-Hancock County Public Library is offering the following programs the week of June 7 - 13, 2026: On Tuesday, June 9 at 9:00 a.m. in the Lindamood Room, and again on Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Waterfalls Pavilion at Riverside Park, the Hancock County Farmers' Market and Into the Wild will share Sylvia's Spinach by Katherine Pryor and we will discover what happens when a picky eater grows her least favorite vegetable, spinach, in the school garden. Explore unusual seeds and learn more about your local community garden! Information about Power of Produce POP Club will be shared, where children can receive vouchers to spend at the market each week and make their own shopping decisions. The content of this program is geared towards preschool-aged children. Get ready for an adventure! Summer Connect brings together Findlay-Hancock County Public Library and other community organizations for fun, games, and exciting activities. Plus, kids can take home free books. Meet us on June 9 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Family Center and on June 11 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Jefferson Primary Schools. These events are completely free for Findlay residents. Come connect, play, and explore. Join the fun Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Lindamood Room for art, science, and engineering projects in our makerspace for kids! This week's theme is Perler Beads. Looking for something fun to do? Whether you're super competitive, love board games, or just want a place to relax and hang out with friends, teens in grades 6–12 are invited to join us for Teen Game Night on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in the Lindamood Room! We'll have a variety of games to play, plenty of snacks to enjoy, and lots of laughs along the way. Come challenge your friends, meet new people, or simply kick back and enjoy a fun afternoon in a welcoming space made just for teens. No registration required — just bring yourself and get ready for a great time! Mini Meet-Up is scheduled for Wednesday at 9 a.m. in the Early Literacy Center in the Children's Department. Little ones can explore new games, toys and activities that are educational and fun while socializing and making new friends. Starter Storytime will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Lindamood Room and Friday at 10 a.m. at Riverside Park's Waterfalls Pavilion. Miss Nicole will lead families in singing, rhyming, reading and having fun with scarves and bells. This program is designed to foster a love of reading while developing early literacy skills and is suggested for children up to 36 months of age with a caregiver. Older siblings are welcome, too. Join us to celebrate Ohio's America 250 theme for the month of June, Ohio Outdoors: Exploring Ohio's Natural Resources. On Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. and again at 1:30 p.m., Naturalist Aide Jesse Oestreich from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources will lead us on a guided nature hike at Van Buren State Park to explore the Haiku Path and Red Trail while learning about the park's dam, local wildlife, biodiversity, and native plants. Songbirds and woodpeckers may also be spotted along the way. The hike is approximately one mile over uneven terrain and is recommended for ages 8 and up. Register at findlaylibrary.org/events for the session you'd like to attend. Participants should wear closed-toe shoes, comfortable clothing, bug spray, and bring a water bottle. Join us each month for our brief "Eat the Rainbow" Eat Well/Live Well monthly series, highlighting the various natural phytochemicals in fruits and vegetables, discussing tasty ways to incorporate them into our diets. On Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. in the Lindamood Room, we'll discuss the benefits of eating red fruits and vegetables. Join our Sci-fi and Fantasy Book Club, Bows & Blasters, on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. in the Administration Office. This month, we'll be looking at The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin. Copies of the book are available in the Information Services Department. Hey, animal lovers! Thinking about adopting a pet, learning how to care for a new furry friend, or helping out as a pet-sitter this summer? Maybe you're curious about fostering, too! Join staff from the Humane Society & SPCA of Hancock County on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Lindamood Room for Pet Care 101. The staff will share what to expect when adopting or fostering a pet and offer helpful tips for keeping pets happy and healthy. We'll wrap up the program with a fun pet-themed craft and coloring activity. Registration is required at findlaylibrary.org/events. Children ages 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Our Virtual Author Talks continue on Thursday at 7 p.m. with Author Matt Dinniman and his book A Parade of Horribles.
