Edison Schools levy results to be examined

MILAN — It's truly an unlucky fate for Edison Schools, which lost its levy attempt by 13 votes, according to unofficial results from Erie and Huron counties.But it's not a definitive loss because local elections board officials must certify the results and will most likely examine ballots cast in this race.If approved, the 7.3-mill, substitute emergency operating levy would have become a continuing levy and generated about $1.7 million annually.Additionally, it would have cost the owner of a $100,000 home about $228 a year, according to the Erie County auditor's office."Substitute levies were only introduced in Ohio in 2008. Like renewals, substitute levies do not increase residents' taxes when they are approved a second time," district treasurer Anne Arnold said.
