Findlay, region surrounded by smoke

FINDLAY — It was a hazy, smoky, pungent Thursday in Findlay and the rest of Northwest Ohio, on a summer day that otherwise would have been bright and sunny.Wildfires from Canada pushed smoke into northern Ohio early Thursday morning, after much of Michigan was deluged with the smoke Wednesday.The National Weather Service's Cleveland office has issued an Air Quality Alert through 11 p.m. Friday night.According to the alert: The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency expects the Air Quality Index to be in the "unhealthy" range.Around 3:15 p.m., airnow.gov reported the air quality in the Findlay area to be 481, safely into the "Hazardous" category.The NWS said the smoke from the wildfires is causing temperatures to be about 10 degrees cooler than they would otherwise have been. Visibility in the Findlay area was at about a mile; further north, in Toledo, it was a half mile.A number of outdoor events were canceled Thursday in the Findlay area, including the Flag City Sluggers' baseball game against the Southern Ohio Copperheads.
