Unemployment falls across Ohio

FINDLAY — Hancock County was ranked 71 out of 88 in the Ohio Job and Family Services' May unemployment statistics report. Hancock County's unemployment rate fell 0.2% to 2.6% from the previous month. It previously had a rate of 3.3% in March. Ohio's unemployment rate in May was 3%, down from 4.5% during the same period last year. Nationally, the unemployment rates jumped slightly to 4.1%. Rates are not seasonally adjusted. Only Trumbull County remained at or above 4% in unemployment in May. Lucas County remains close behind with 3.9%. During the previous month, Trumbull, Mahoning, Pike, Lucas, Ottawa, Scioto, Meigs, and Monroe counties were at or above 4%. Around the state, many other counties' rates continued to decline. Regionally, Wyandot County fell 0.1%, Putnam's rate fell by 0.3%, Wood County decreased by 0.3%, Seneca County saw a decrease in unemployment by 0.4% with Henry County seeing the biggest decrease in the local area at 0.6%. Allen and Hardin counties both saw marginal decreases since April at 0.3% and 0.2%, respectively. June unemployment statistics are expected later this month.
