Combs named FAGA Female POY

FINDLAY --Sarah Combs will be going into her senior season at Old Fort on a roll. Combs won three times in the Findlay Area Golf Association Girls 14-18 Division this summer. That included Monday's tournament at Findlay Country Club, where she shot a championship-winning 87. For that, Combs was named the FAGA Dr. Charles Spragg Female Player of the Year, announced at a banquet Monday evening. "I kind of knew I had a chance (at the award) going in," Combs said, "but you never know." On Monday, Combs was two strokes better than runner-up EmmaLee VonLehmden of Liberty-Benton, who had an 89. FAGA did not award a Male Player of the Year because the top performers weren't in enough tournaments. The organization did give out two Walt Whithaus Sportsman of the Year awards. For the second year in a row, Hopewell-Loudon's Aubrey Cline won the girls sportsmanship honor. Riverdale's Andrew Alge won the boys sportsmanship award. Arcadia's Aiden Cline won the Boys 16-18 Division Monday, firing an 82 and holding off runner-up Asher Norman by a stroke. In the boys 14-15 Division, Findlay's Will Gutman put up a 79 to finish first Monday, with another Trojan, Thayne Shepherd taking second with an 81. In the boys 12-13 division, Carter McKibbon fired a 78, while Corbin Pessell had a 79 and Clay Bergman an 80. In the girls 10-13 division, Caroline Bennett shot a nine-hole 55 to win. LEGION BASEBALLLANCASTER – Findlay will face Lancaster Friday at 2:30 p.m. in one of two play-in games kicking off the 2026 American Legion state baseball tournament at Lancaster's Beavers Field.Utica takes on Cambridge Friday at noon, with Napoleon playing Yeager-Benson at 5 p.m. and Sidney going against Beverly-Lowell at 7:30 P.M.Four games will be played Saturday and three Sunday. The championship game is set for Monday at 10 a.m., with an "if-needed" second game at 12:30 p.m.
