Sandusky facilities details coming together

SANDUSKY — Site plans for the new Ontario and Hancock schools were approved by the zoning appeals board in December, according to a new facilities update from Sandusky Schools.The updates are put together each month with help from Lesko Associates, a Cleveland architecture firm designing the district's three new buildings: the Intermediate school for grades 3-6; Ontario Primary for first and second-grade students; and Hancock Academy for preschool and kindergarten students.Rendering for he new intermediate school near Sandusky High School, which is scheduled to open by fall 2019.Also in this month's update, the construction documents for the new buildings will be finished by Friday, the company said. "These are the documents that are used by (Gilbane-Ozanne, the project's construction manager) to obtain bids from contractors who want to be part of the team that builds the new schools," Lesko Associates said.Construction for Ontario Primary and the intermediate school are scheduled to begin in April. Last week, demolition of the former Ontario Elementary occurred while construction equipment was seen working at the site of the intermediate school, near Sandusky High School. Construction for the new Ontario Primary for first and second-grade students is scheduled to begin in April.Renovation workThe construction documents for renovations and updates to Sandusky High School's science rooms, rooms 300/301, planetarium and auditorium are finished and were sent to the construction management team, who will review the documents and send them out to contractors to bid on the projects.Though the renovations will begin this summer, cabinetry and other items are being secured to be sure materials are ordered and will arrive for installation after this school year ends. The renovations will be finished by the first day of school later this year.The new Hancock Preschool and Kindergarten Academy will serve Sandusky Schools' youngest students beginning January 2021. The new school will be built at Hancock Elementary's original site.
