Trojans win home opener

FINDLAY – Findlay's Rosalynn Mayle, a senior letter winner for the FHS girls tennis team, rallied from a first set loss to score a No. 2 singles win when the Trojans beat Toledo St. Ursula 4-1 on Monday in their home opener at the FHS Tennis Courts.Mayle outlasted St. Ursula's Sophia Oswald 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the match at No. 2 singles. Freshman Amelia Stamper dominated her match, beating Gigi Desch 6-1, 6-0. Findlay also swept the doubles matches by identical 6-0, 6-1 scores, with Audrey Schroeder and Willow Wetzel defeating Jackie Jennewine and Irene Iskander at No. 1, and the Trojans No. 2 team of Sanjana Indupuru and Alex Smith copying that score against Reagan Cron and Peyton Davis.St. Ursula's lone win came at No. 3 singles where Lily Nooney defeated Tailee Phiengthirath, 6-0, 6-3.Findlay, on the road today with a Northern Lakes League match at Springfield, opened the 2026 season on Saturday and placed fifth among the eight teams that took part in the Ashland Invitational.Stamper, playing No. 1 singles for the Trojans, won her opening match, then fell 8-5 to Tiffin Columbian's Weingart 8-5 in the finals.Findlay's No. 1 doubles team of Mayle and Indupuru also won their first match, before falling in the final to Ashland.Schroeder and Findlay's No. 2 double steam of Mary Williams and Alex Smith both lost their opening matches before ending the day with consolation round wins. Gymnastics Morales earns top honors DES MOINES, Ia. – Kaylee Morales was the Level 8 all-around champion, earned AAU all-American honors in the process and was selected to be a member of the AAU Junior Olympic National and International team after her performance at the Junior Olympics held recently in Des Moines, Ia.In Level 8 finals, Morales placed first in vault (9.4), uneven bars (9.35), balance beam (9.35) and floor exercises (9.575) for her first-place all-around total of 37.975.Morales' Level 8 success qualified her for the all-inclusive tournament finals, where she again won the vault (9.4), while placing second on beam (9.225) and floor (9.4) and third on bars (8.7).As a member of the AAU Junior Olympic National and International team, Morales, a student at Liberty-Benton who trains at Findlay's Elite Gymnastics Center, will represent the United States at the Atlantis Crown Invite to be held at Paradise Island, Bahamas, in December.A number of other Elite gymnasts competed and did well in the Junior Olympics.At the Platinum Level, Jade Griffin was first in the finals of the bars with a score of 9.9 after winning the same event (9.5) in earlier competition. GIRLS GOLF OTTAWA LAKE, Mich. – Jordan Patton carded an 87 and Lauren Hibbard had an 88 in leading Van Buren's girls golf team to a third place finish in Monday's Sylvania Invitational played at the Legacy Golf Club.Patton was third in the medalist scoring, Hibbard was sixth and both ended up on the all-tournament team. Trysta Adams (91) and Andrea Groman (107) rounded out a 373 total that trailed only Anthony Wayne (349) and Sylvania Northview (355) in the team standings.
