Liz Niese had two assists and Reagan Niese, Channing Cupples, Reese Alexander and Isabelle Miller chipped in with one each. BOYS SOCCER VAN BUREN 1LBENTON 0FINDLAY – Van Buren's boys soccer team managed just three shots on goal against Liberty-Benton on Friday.Travis Carey converted one of those kicks, a penalty shot at the 17:07 mark of the second half, into a goal, though, in earning the Black Knights a 1-0 victory over L-B in a tense and tight season opener between the backyard rivals. It was Van Buren's first boys soccer victory over L-B since the 2021 season.Liberty-Benton blasted the Black Knights 9-0 a year ago when the Eagles were compiling an 18-2-2 record and marching to the Division IV regional finals.Friday's rematch was a defensive battle, though. The match was scoreless at the half, but Van Buren was able to capitalize after L-B was called for a penalty in the box. Carey, a junior midfielder, converted that opportunity into the game's lone goal.Kooper Leatherman, a junior goalkeeper, made two saves for L-B. The Eagles had an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal. SHAWNEE 2BLUFFTON 0LIMA – Nolan Schroeder and Landon Meas scored a goal each in leading Lima Shawnee to a 2-0 boys soccer win over Bluffton. GIRLS GOLF LEXINGTON INV.LEXINGTON – Led by Lauren Hibbard's 83, Van Buren placed eighth in the Lexington Invitational played at the Oak Tree Golf Club on Friday.Jordan Patton (91), Trysta Adams (94) and Andrea Groman (101) rounded out Van Buren's 369 team total. Dublin Jerome carded a 288 to win the title in an elite 15-school field. Toledo St. Ursula posted a 298 but was 10 stroke back in second, finishing just ahead of St. Ursula's 'B' team (306). TORNADO INV.TIFFIN – Aubrey Cline carded an 83 on Friday in leading Hopewell-Loudon to a third place finish in the Tornado Invitational played at Clinton Heights Gold Course.Anthony Wayne put up a 360 score to win the 17-team event.
