One injured, one cited in Tuesday crash FINDLAY — A Findlay man was cited with failure to obey a traffic control device after a Tuesday evening crash that sent one juvenile to the hospital with suspected minor injuries. According to a release, the Findlay police responded to the intersection of I-75 and West Trenton Avenue a little after 6 p.m. for a report of the crash. Initial investigation revealed a vehicle driven by Makayla Swank, 18, of North Baltimore, was traveling west on West Trenton Avenue while a second vehicle, driven by Jerry Waldman, 61, of Findlay, was traveling south on I-75, the release said. Waldman failed to stop for a red traffic light and struck Swank's vehicle. Both vehicles sustained disabling damage. A juvenile passenger was transported to Blanchard Valley Hospital with suspected minor injuries. Waldman was cited with failure to stop at a traffic light. Findlay Fire Department, Hanco EMS, the Ohio State Highway Patrol and Ed's Towing assisted at the scene. Highway Patrol running OVI checkpoint in Hancock County FINDLAY — The Ohio State Highway Patrol announced it will hold an OVI checkpoint in Hancock County tomorrow evening. The checkpoint, funded by federal grant funds, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers, a release from the Patrol states. "Based on provisional data, there were 540 OVI-related fatalities last year in Ohio," Lieutenant Evan Slates, post commander of the Findlay Post, said. "State troopers made an average of 15,000 OVI arrests last year in an attempt to combat these dangerous drivers. OVI checkpoints are designed to not only deter impaired driving, but to proactively remove these dangerous drivers from our roadways." The location of the checkpoint will be announced today. The Ohio State Highway Patrol reminds the public to call 911 or #677 if you suspect an impaired driver. County roads closing for culvert work FINDLAY — Hancock County's Allen TR 114 Box Culvert replacement project between CR 140 and Allen TR 141 will begin Monday, Aug. 24 and last approximately three weeks, weather permitting. The project will replace an existing box culvert, and is being constructed by the Allen Township Board of Trustees with Hancock County Engineer highway work crews. In addition to Allen TR 114, Hancock CR 140 will also be closed between SR 613 and Deweyville Road in Wood County while the bridge is constructed. Residents and motorists are encouraged to detour using local roads in that area.
