Pandora man nominated by Husted for Merchant Marines COLUMBUS — Jack Buell of Pandora has been nominated by U.S. Sen. Jon Husted for acceptance to the United States Merchant Marine Academy. To be considered for an appointment to a service academy, applicants must be nominated by an authorized nominating source, which includes members of Congress. After evaluating the applicants' academics, athletics, extracurricular activities and community service experience, Husted's office conducted in-person interviews with applicants qualified for admission. Members of Congress can nominate a maximum of 55 students annually, including up to 15 applicants to each of the Air Force, Military and Naval academies, and up to 10 to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. "Choosing to serve your nation in the Armed Forces is among the highest callings. I'm proud of these students for their commitment to academics, athletics and service to their community, and I'm honored to nominate them for admission to our service academies," Husted is quoted saying in a release. Students who receive a Congressional nomination to one of the Military Service Academies must still earn admission to their nominated academy and continue to maintain eligibility for that admission until their arrival on campus, including maintaining their records in academics, integrity and physical fitness. They must also successfully complete the Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board assessment, among other rigorous requirements. NB library hosting episodes of new Netflix series NORTH BALTIMORE — The first two episodes of the new Netflix series, "Little House on the Prairie," will be the August View & Chew presentation on Thursday. The movie is sponsored by the North Baltimore Public Library and the Virginia Theater. The new series, starring Luke Bracey, Crosby Fitzgerald and Alice Halsey, follows the Ingalls family as they journey west to Kansas in search of a new beginning. The opening episodes chronicle the family's efforts to establish a homestead and build a new life on the frontier while facing the challenges of pioneer life. Theater doors open at 5:30 p.m., with the program beginning at 6. Concessions will be available for purchase. The movie is free and open to the public.
