FHS tennis team rolls past Springfield FINDLAY &emsp;&emsp;5 SPRINGFIELD 0 HOLLAND – In one of its strongest outings of the season, Findlay High's girls tennis team dropped just two games in five matches in steamrolling its way to a 5-0 win over Springfield in a Northern Lakes League contest on Wednesday. Findlay freshman Amelia Stamper quickly set the tone with a 6-0, 6-1 decision over Springfield's Alex Daney at No. 1 singles. Willow Wetzel and Rosalynn Mayle followed suit with 6-0, 6-0 victories, with Willow (No. 2) beating Hope Snyder and Mayle (No. 3) blanking Tori Welch. In double matches, Sanjana Indupuru and AudreySchroeder (No. 1) rolled past Addie Evans and Kinley Carter 6-0, 6-1, and Alex Smith and Adeline Collins (No. 2) shut out Jordan Livers and Sofia Solis 6-0, 6-0. Now 4-3 overall and 2-2 in league play. Findlay is at Sylvania Southview for another NLL match today, then has a three-match home stand with Toledo Central Catholic Monday, Oregon Clay on Tuesday and Toledo Whitmer next Thursday. GIRLS SOCCER NORTHVIEW 8 FINDLAY &emsp;&emsp;0 FINDLAY – Sylvania Northview's Mira Ziemke exploded for five goals on Wednesday in leading the Wildcats to an 8-0 win over Findlay in a Northern Lakes League girls soccer match at Elmer Graham Stadium. Just a sophomore, Ziemke has already scored 11 goals in three matches this season for the unbeaten Wildcats (3-0). The forward led Northview in both goals (18) and assists (10) as a freshman. Northview's Audrey Clark scored two goals and Isabella Burnard added one Allie Chow made 11 saves in goal for Findlay. Defensively, Emme Patey led the Trojans with 15 intercepts, with Ava Cooper and Elleson Rader adding seven each. Findlay fell to 0-2 in NLL play and 0-4 overall against a brutal early-season schedule. The four teams the Trojans have lost to are a combined 11-1-1, with Perrysburg (2-1-0) the only one not unbeaten so far this season. Findlay is back on the pitch next week for road games at Sylvania Southview on Wednesday and at Elida on Sept. 5. ADA &emsp;&emsp;3 FT. JENNINGS 1 ADA – Ada's Rose Baxter scored two goals and Kenley Poling had a goal and an assist in the Bulldogs 3-1 soccer win over Fort Jennings. Avary Acheson added an assist for Ada. Emily Gibson earned the win in goal as the Bulldogs ran their undefeated record to 4-0-1. VOLLEYBALL ARLINGTON 3 COL. GROVE 2 ARLINGTON – Arlington's Mireya Velazquez stuffed the stat sheet with 13 kills, nine digs and five ace serves and the Red Devils rallied from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits and ran their unbeaten record to 4-0 with a 22-25, 25-19, 16-25, 25-18, 15-6 win over Columbus Grove. Alexis Grieser and Callie Hartman pounded seven kills each for Arlington. Ellie Marquart had a team-high 38 assists along with nine digs. JUNIOR VARSITY: Columbus Grove, 25- 20, 25-21. BLUFFTON &emsp;&emsp;3 P-GILBOA &emsp;&emsp;0 PANDORA – Camryn Fruchey and Taylin Goldman pounded 11 kills each and Karlie Lora had 10 kills and two blocks in Bluffton's 25-10, 25-16, 25-22 volleyball win over Pandora-Gilboa. Fruchey also had 15 assists and two ace serves. Lora, Gracie Warren and Ari Goings all had 10 digs for the Pirates (2-2). Aubrey Sunderhaus had five kills and six digs and Laira Parkins had four kills and four assists for P-G (1-1). Annabelle Benton led the Rockets with 10 digs, Claire Osting had four kills and Kenley Rieman had five assists. JUNIOR VARSITY: Bluffton 25-21, 25-16. USV 3 VANLUE &emsp;&emsp;2 VANLUE – Upper Scioto Valley overcame a 1-0 deficit and a Vanlue rally in the fourth set to outlast the Wildcats 16-25, 25-18, 25-8, 18-25, 15-4 in Wednesday's nonleague volleyball match. Aubree Higgins, Vanlue's 6-foot senior middle hitter, was 33-of-38 spiking with 12 kills and two blocks. Mariah Wood was 16-for-16 serving with two aces and 39-for-39 setting with 12 assists and 11 digs. Kennedy Brooks (18-19 serving) had four aces and three kills and Riley Holbrook had three kills and nine digs. Kambri Norville had a team-high 20 digs for the Wildcats (1-3), who continue a busy schedule today when they travel to Ridgemont for their fifth volleyball match in eight days. BOYS GOLF FINDLAY QUAD FINDLAY – Just nine strokes separated first place and fourth place on Wednesday in a competitive four-team meet played at the Findlay Country Club.
