Notre Dame hands Findlay first loss of season

NOTRE DAME 3FINDLAY 0FINDLAY – Findlay High's volleyball team ran into a buzz-saw on Saturday when Toledo Notre Dame swept into the FHS Gymnasium and handed the Trojans their first loss of the season.Findlay battled Notre Dame (2-2) into overtime in the second set, but the Eagles dominated the first and third sets in earning a 25-17, 27-25, 25-17 victory. Davinee Harris and Bryn Cramer each raced the Findlay attack with seven kills each. Harris added seven digs. The Trojans' Addy Rood slammed six kills and two blocks, while Maggie Crates contributed nine digs.Findlay will look to get back to its winning ways today when the Trojans host Defiance (1-1). A busy week continues with road games at Fremont Ross (2-3) on Tuesday and at Perrysburg (2-2) on Thursday. JUNIOR VARSITY: Findlay, 2-1 FRESHMAN: Findlay, 2-1 L-BENTON 3H-LOUDON 2BASCOM – Liberty-Benton rallied from a 2-1 deficit, went overtime to win the fourth set, and finally was able to outlast Hopewell-Loudon 25-19, 19-25, 20-25, 26-24, 15-11 in a marathon battle between the former state champions.Liberty-Benton, Ohio's Division III state champion i n 2019, and 2021, improved to 2-1 with the win. Corra Dehart lined 23 kills and served three aces for the Eagles. Megan Gerken served five aces, two of which were the deciding points in the fourth set. She also smashed six kills.. Evelyn Ricker added 27 digs for L-B, while Josie Hochstettler registered 14. Anna Lane dished out 48 assists and Emelia Kinn downed 14 kills.Aaraceli Velasquez had 19 kills and 18 digs, Lily Brickner had 12 kills, and Savanna Cook had 18 digs and 38 assists for Hopewell-Loudon, which won five consecutive Division IV state titles from 1997-2001.JUNIOR VARSITY: Liberty-Benton 25-19, 25-19. LAKOTA 3ARCADIA 0KANSAS – Lakota swept Arcadia in a girls volleyball match on Saturday, beating the Redskins 25-14, 25-19, 25-21 to secure its first win of the season.Kate Seem led Arcadia (1-2) with eight kills, Ryleigh Bostic had seven kills and eight digs, and Elyse Boes had six kills and two ace serves. Lexi Theis had 12 digs and Ivy Smith (20 assists) had 11.JUNIOR VARSITY: Lakota, 25-13, 25-17. ARLINGTON 3C-RAWSON 0ARLINGTON – Arlington ran its unbeaten volleyball record to 5-0 on Saturday with a 25-8, 25-9, 25-7 win over Cory-Rawson. The Red Devils' Ellie Marquart dished out 29 assists and served eight aces. McKenna Bergman recorded nine kills and two aces, Callie Hartman added eight kills and four blocks. Arlington is on the road today to take on a 5-2 Ottoville team that went 2-1 on Saturday and placed third in a strong field of teams at the Parkway Invitational. MILLER CITY TRIMILLER CITY – Bluffton dropped a volleyball doubleheader on Saturday, falling to Miller City 19-25, 25-15, 25-18 in one match and to Tinora 25-23, 26-24 in the otherMiller City's Quincy Moenter had 14 kills and Payton Michel had 21 assists in the Wildcats three-set match with Bluffton. RIVERDALE 3 U. SANDUSKY 2 MOUNT BLANCHARD -- Leah Miller nearly had a triple double for Riverdale Saturday against Upper Sandusky, recording nine kills, 17 assists and 16 digs as the Falcons inched past the Rams in five sets, 24-26, 25-20, 19-25, 25-21, 16-14. Claire Inbody led Riverdale with 10 kills, as the Falcons improved to 2-0 this season. Dylann Thacker lined nine kills, while Grace Driskell registered eight. Alex McBride handed out 15 assists for Riverdale, while Abby Hoy collected 21 digs. JV: Upper Sandusky, 2-0.
