Call For Artists FINDLAY — The Findlay Art League is looking for artists to submit work for their October show titled "Off the Wall". This is a 3D show open to all artists. Artwork must exhibit all 3 dimensions, length, width and depth. Artwork can be free standing of wall hanging. Entries will be accepted in the gallery at 117 W. Crawford Street on Friday, September 25 from 6-8 p.m. and on Saturday, September 26 from 9 a.m. to noon. This is a juried show with cash prizes for the winners. Impact Team volunteers needed to review United Way grants FINDLAY — United Way of Hancock County is seeking volunteers to help with its funding decisions by reviewing grant applications and providing input as to where campaign dollars can have the most positive local impact. These volunteers make up Impact Teams, and the United Way is looking to recruit approximately 40 Impact Team volunteers by Sept. 28. Impact Team members attend a short training course at the beginning of October and review four to five applications at their own pace throughout October. No grant reading experience is needed. The volunteers will attend one meeting in mid-November to discuss the applications with their teammates and make recommendations for funding. United Way of Hancock County has set this year's Campaign goal at $1.9 million. All money donated to the organization stays in the community to help measurably improve people's lives. United Way of Hancock County is entering its grant review season for 2027 Partner Agency funding. Each year, local nonprofit agencies apply for and receive funding generated through United Way's Annual Campaign, which in 2025 raised $1.9 million for disbursement in 2026. Funding is recommended by Impact Team volunteers, who are trained to review partner agencies' grant applications and make recommendations to the United Way board of directors on which nonprofits to fund and at what level. Each fall, United Way makes it a priority to engage a diverse array of volunteers to provide input on this important process. ODA announces spotted lanternfly grantsREYNOLDSBURG — The Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) today announced funding is available for communities working to combat the invasive spotted lanternfly (SLF) and its host – the invasive tree of heaven. To support local efforts, a limited number of grants, up to $15,000 each with an in-kind match of 10%, are available to organizations working to control SLF populations (universities and extension offices excluded). State and local government agencies, parks systems, and non-profit organizations with a track record of success in invasive plant or pest management are encouraged to apply. Priority will be given to agencies working in the most infested areas. Projects funded through the grant may include: • Removal of trees of heaven• Herbicide treatment to prevent regrowth• Targeted insecticide treatments for SLF• Egg mass identification and removal• Community engagement activities to help control the pest• Funding was made available under a cooperative agreement with USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service's Plant Protection and Quarantine. This is the second round of funding available for communities. The submission deadline for this opportunity is September 30, 2026. Organizations are encouraged to apply online. Because SLF is now established in parts of Ohio and active management efforts are underway, ODA is no longer encouraging reports of individual sightings from the public.
