Unemployment continues to fall across Ohio

COLUMBUS — In July there were 199,000 unemployed Ohio residents, down from 266,000 in the same time last year, according to recently released statistics from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Resources. Ohio's unemployment rate in July was 3.4%. Hancock County followed only slightly behind at 3.2%. Nationally, the July unemployment rate was 4.4%. Overall, unemployment rates decreased across the state, increasing in one county and remaining unchanged in nine counties. Trumbull County was the only county with an unemployment rate at 5% and was ranked at number one in the state with the highest unemployment rate. Meigs and Scioto counties were close behind at 4.8% and 4.7%, respectively. Nineteen counties had unemployment rates at or below 3%. Holmes County had the lowest unemployment rate at 2.3%. Wyandot County had among the lowest in the state at 2.6%. Hancock County had 1,200 unemployed residents in July, with 600 residing in Findlay. Hancock County was ranked 62 in the state, down from 50 in June. The city of Findlay had an unemployment rate of 3.3% in July, down from 5% a year ago. August statistics are expected to be released later this month.
