League-leading Generals slip past Trojans, 2-0

GIRLS SOCCER AN. WAYNE 2 FINDLAY 0 FINDLAY – Findlay High's girls soccer team battled league-leading Anthony Wayne to the wire on Wednesday, falling just short of the Generals 2-0 in a Northern Lakes League contest at Elmer Graham Stadium. Anthony Wayne's Kylie Gerken and Harper Holesko scored first half goals for all the offense the Generals needed to remain unbeaten in NLL matches (4-0-0) and improve to 5-1-2 overall. Allie Chiow made 10 saves in goal for Findlay (1-6-0, 1-3-0 NLL). Emme Patey led the Trojans defense with 14 intercepts , Elleson Rader had 12 and Ava Cooper and Noah Tesner came up with eight each. Findlay will host Olentangy Liberty Saturday, then has NLL road matches at Oregon Clay on Monday and at Toledo Whitmer on Wednesday. VAN BUREN 2 ADA 1 VAN BUREN – Van Buren overcame a 1-0 deficit and got a game-winning goal from Mari Hardie with 5:43 left in the match in knocking off undefeated Ada 2-1 in a North Central Ohio Soccer Association game at Tom Swaisgood Memorial Field on Wednesday. Shay Smith, on an assist from Rose Baxter, put Ada on the board 12 minutes into the match. Van Buren tied it on a goal by Ella Grieger 10 minutes later, then won it on Hardie's late goal. Claire Wetherill had an assist for Van Buren, 3-3-1 overall and 1-1-0 in NCOSA play. Knights' goalie Brynn Griffith made 12 saves. The loss was the first in eight matches for Ada (6-1-1). L-BENTON 14 FT. ROSS 0 FREMONT – Ally Ferris and Isabelle Miller had two goals and an assist each, Lucy Baker also scored two goals and Liberty-Benton had 11 players find the back of the net is rolling to a 14-0 romp over Fremont Ross in Northern Lakes League girls soccer action. Sophie McDaniel, Lyla Hollopeter, Liz Niese and Kylie Modd had a goal and an assist each. Ranked No. 8 among Ohio's Division IV girls soccer teams, L-B chalked up its fifth straight win and improved to 7-1-0 overall, 2-1-0 in the NLL. Fremont Ross is 1-7-0, 0-4-0 in the league. U. SANDUSKY 1 RIVERDALE 1 UPPER SANDUSKY – Shiloh Shasteen's goal as the first half ended created a 1-1 tie with Riverdale, and the game eventually ended in a draw between the Rams (5-2-1) and the Falcons (2-4-2). SANDUSKY 4 RIVERDALE 1 MOUNT BLANCHARD – Deacon Burton scored two goals and Cooper Roof had a goal and two assists in Upper Sandusky's 4-1 win over Riverdale in a North Central Ohio Soccer Association boys soccer match. Jonathan Craig had two assists and Troy Hoffbauer made five saves in goal as Upper Sandusky remained undefeated both overall (7-0-1) and in NCOSA play (2-0-1). Riverdale slipped to 2-6-0 on the season. VOLLEYBALL LEIPSIC 3 COL. GROVE 1 LEIPSIC – Leipsic dominated the third and fourth sets in beating Columbus Grove 25-22, 22-25, 25-16, 25-8 in a Putnam County League volleyball match. Leipsic got strong play at the net from Alyssa Campbell, Kya Brandt and Morgan Valdez in climbing to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the PCL. Campbell had 19 kills and nine digs, Brandt had a 16-kill, 14-dig double-double and Valdez had 15 kills. Sydney Apple (2 blocks) and Meredith Goodwin added five kills each. Ryleigh Newell handed out 57 assists and Jaelynn Siefer had a team-high 26 digs. ARLINGTON 3 U. SANDUSKY 0 UPPER SANDUSKY – Arlington came out on top in three close sets in posting a 25-22, 25-20, 25-20 volleyball win over Upper Sandusky. MaKenna Bergman and Lexy Grieser pounded eight kills each, with Bergman also serving up four aces. Ellie Marquart also had four ace serves for Arlington (8-2) while also dishing out a team-high 28 assists. Upper Sandusky fell to 1-8 with the loss. NEW RIEGEL 3 RIVERDALE 0 MOUNT BLANCHARD – New Riegel's Jacqui Tiell, Lilly Schalk and Lexi Lafontaine all smacked nine kills in leading the Blue Jackets to a 25-18, 25-14, 25-21 win over Riverdale. Karsyn Piper had six kills and Claire Schalk had 24 assists for New Riegel. GIRLS TENNIS NOTRE DAME 5FINDLAY 0TOLEDO – Toledo Notre Dame swept all five matches in straight sets in a 5-0 girls tennis win over Findlay.In singles matches, Emily Mayhall (No. 1) defeated Amelia Stamper 6-2, 6-0, Hannah Tam (No. 2) beat Willow Wetzel 6-1, 6-0, and Gigi Zaleski (No. 3) topped Rosalynn Mayle 6-2, 6-3.Notre Dame's Sammy Sanduik and Beth Miller doubled up Audrey Schroeder and Sanjana Indupuru 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, and Mary Mille and Kaetlyn Vollmer (No. 2) outlasted Alex Smith and Zoe Perkins 6-4, 6-0.
