Prep golf TROJAN INVITATIONALFINDLAY – Charlie Kazmierczak was second in the individual standings but he and his Toledo St. John's teammates were out in front in the team standings at the 35th annual Trojan Invitational Golf Tournament held Saturday at the Findlay Country Club.With Kazmiercazak leading the way with an even par 72, St. John's posted a 302 team total. Cincinnati Moeller was a distant second at 311 and Columbus St. Charles was third (323). Placings heated up from there, with Mason (326) edging Toledo St. Francis (327) for fourth. Van Buren was sixth at 332, finishing just ahead of Liberty-Benton (333), Olentangy Liberty (334) and Dublin Coffman (336).Findlay Gold finished tenth at 343, with Ottoville (346) and Findlay Blue (376) rounding out the field.Moeller's Tripp Johnson was the tournament medalist with a 3-under 69. Van Buren's Jake Schroeder tied for fourth (75) in the medalist standings, and Liberty-Benton's Asher Norman was eighth (77).Peyton Beilharz (82), Andrew Hibbard (87) and Luke Grady (88) completed Van Buren's team score. Jackson Knepper (83), Luke Gerken (85) and Boston Clum (88) followed Norman for Liberty-Benton.Owen Vick led the Findlay Gold team with an 82, Kellen Sherer carded an 83, Ari Fort posted an 88 and Ashton Holdgreve a 90. Will Gutman (87) and Thayne Shepherd (90) paced the Findlay Blue team. Volleyball PIONEER INV.KALIDA – Megan Gerken slammed 25 kills and Emelia Kin had 20 kills and six blocks when Liberty-Benton won two of its three marches and placed third in the Pioneer Days Invitational volleyball tournament held in Kalida.Elise Brzezinski had 17 kills, 27 digs and six aces and Courtney Eyink added 14 kills. Anna Lane led L-B with 63 total assists. Evelyn Ricker had 39 digs, Josie Hochstettler had 34 and Lane 21. Alexis Walker served up five aces.Liberty-Benton beat Allen East in its opening match 25-20, 25-13. The Eagles (7-3) lost to Fairview in the second round, 25-21, 25-20, then rebounded to beat Wayne Trace 29-27, 25-21 in the consolation final for third place.Kalida won the eight-team invitational, beating Fairview 25-17, 25-22 in the championship match. ARLINGTON 3 SPENCERVILLE 0 ARLINGTON -- Mireya Velazquez slammed 16 kills and served four aces as Arlington swept Spencerville 25-22, 25-20, 25-16. Velazquez also registered eight digs for the Red Devils, while Allie Settlage recorded 23 digs and Ellie Marquart dished out 36 assists to go with 10 digs. JUNIOR VARSITY: Arlington, 2-1. BALTIMORE 0 NORTH BALTIMORE -- Elmwood powered past North Baltimore Saturday, topping the Tigers 25-6, 25-13, 25-8, Jayme Zeigler had 11 digs for the Tigers, while Sydney Meggitt added four kills. McCOMB 17GIBSONBURG 0Editor's note: The following information was inadvertently omitted from Saturday's edition.McCOMB – Luke Kern was a big part of McComb's scoring Friday in a 17-0 non-conference victory over Gibsonburg.Kern drilled a 35 yard field goal, breaking a scoreless tie with about three minutes left in the opening quarter.McComb's 3-0 advantage remained until the opening moments of the fourth quarter. It was then that Ashtin Gallagher padded the Panthers lead with a 2-yard touchdown run.Kern added the point after kick, and McComb led 10-0 with 11:48 left in regulation.About three minutes later, Kern hauled in a 25-yard touchdown pass from Kahle Drown.Again, Kern added the conversion kick.Kern finished with three catches for 51 yards. Gallagher and Drown split time at quarterback, combining to complete 7-of-15 passes for 87 yards.McComb's defense stifled Gibsonburg, forcing its offense into eight punts. Gibsonburg's rushing offense failed to get much going, accumulating 47 yards on 33 carries.The Panthers improved to 3-1, with all of their remaining games being conference matchups.
