Janet Hottman Moore

Janet Hottman Moore, 62, of Findlay, passed away peacefully at home July 12, 2020 surrounded by her children and grandchildren. A memorial visitation will be held at the Kirkpatrick-Behnke Funeral Home, 500 Lima Avenue, Findlay on Friday, July 17, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A repast to follow at the family's home. A beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Janet was born Jan. 10, 1958, in Kenton, Ohio, to the late Elwood and Barbara Hottman. She is survived by sister Ellen (Fredrick John) Bailey of Dola; sons Matthew Moore of Columbus and Jack Moore of Washington, D.C.; daughter Grace Moore, of Findlay; and three granddaughters, Lilliana, Jada and Rosalyn. She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her sister, Ava Hottman, and brother, Gregg Hottman. A former long-time U.S. Postal Service letter carrier, she worked the past 14 years as a customer service manager for Walmart, before retiring in February. For many years, she volunteered with the American Cancer Society, leading support groups to help people quit smoking. Janet was known for her sly wit and sharp tongue. A fearless freethinker, she loved to discuss and debate politics. A lifelong spiritual seeker, she found inspiration and wisdom in a variety of forms, including a deep rooted interest in astrology. As a mother, she nurtured a deep love of music in her children. She played the guitar and wrote her own songs. She loved to cook and was the keeper of a prized recipe box. She was a queen of desserts: home-made cinnamon rolls and strawberry cake were among her specialties. She loved animals and rescued quite a few over the years. She always found room for one more stray dog or cat, who needed a new home or just a place to stay for a little while. She rescued a few people that way, too. Janet loved being a grandmother and helped raise her three granddaughters, who called her "Manny."
