Local Golf: FAGA Championship set for Monday

More than 90 youth golfers in the Findlay Area Golf Association will tee it up for the final time in the 2020 season as FAGA will hold its championship on Monday at Findlay Country Club. Golfers in the boys 16-18 age division, boys 14-15, girls 14-18 and boys 12-13 will start on hole No. 1 for their 18-hole round, while golfers in the girls 10-13 and boys 10-11 brackets will start on No. 10 and play nine holes. Tee times are scattered throughout the morning, beginning at 9 a.m. Each age division has had some solid players and performances this season. Justy VonLehmden leads the boys 16-18 division with four wins in nine tournaments. He had a 4-under 68 to win the FAGA event at Hillcrest Golf Club on June 22. Defending FAGA player of the year Andrew Kuenzli has two wins; one was after he fired a 2-under 70 at Bluffton Golf Club on July 6. Weston Heitkamp (boys 14-15) and Gavin Troiano (boys 10-11) each have five wins in their respective divisions. Blake Hartman, who won at Birch Run Golf Club on June 4 with a 2-under 68, and Payson Dotson both have four wins in the boys 12-13 division. Ava Metz enters the championship with six wins — all in the first six tournaments — in the girls 10-13 division. Claire Recker and Taylor Adams both have three wins in the girls 14-18 division, while Kiley Cline has two. The FAGA banquet after the tournament will not take place due to the coronavirus pandemic.
