Glandorf woman dead after car-train crash

The Ohio State Highway Patrol's Lima post is investigating a car vs. train crash in Putnam County that left a Glandorf woman dead early Tuesday morning, according to a patrol release. According to the highway patrol, Victoria J. Barlage, 63, of Glandorf, was traveling east on Road N-8 between Ottawa and Columbus Grove at 4:56 a.m. Tuesday. Barlage's 2011 Buick Lacrosse was struck by a southbound CSX train, engineered by John E. Mansfield, 45, of Elida. The Buick was heavily damaged, and Barlage was pronounced dead at the scene. There was no damage to the train or railroad property, and Mansfield was not injured. The train's horn was used and headlights were on, and the crossing gates at the railroad intersection were down and flashing at the time of the crash, according to the report. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor, and Barlage was not wearing a seat belt. The crash remains under investigation. Assisting at the scene were the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, Ottawa Police Department, Putnam County Coroner's Office, CSX Railroad Police, Ottawa Fire Department, Putnam County EMS, Love-Heitmeyer Funeral Home and Meyer's Towing.
