Cory-Rawson2019 RECORD: 2-8 overall, 2-5 Blanchard Valley Conference.RIVALRY GAME: It's only a 10-15-minute bus ride from Bluffton to Cory-Rawson but the rivalry between the neighboring schools has been 50 years in the making. Cory-Rawson won the first four matchups and six of the first nine. But Bluffton has won the last nine battles, 15 of the last 16, and leads the series 35-14-1. Last year's 50th anniversary of the rivalry produced some golden moments for both squads, including a 61-yard TD run by Cory-Rawson's Deontae' Davis (166 yards rushing) and a 50-yard dash for a score by Hornets' quarterback Tommy Stauffer.PLAYOFF HISTORY: As far as longtime Cory-Rawson fans are concerned, the OHSAA started the playoff system a bit too late. The Hornets produced unbeaten teams in 1952, 1965, 1966, 1968, 1969 and 1971. The unbeaten, untied, unscored upon team in 1968 was named Class A state poll champion by United Press International. Unfortunately for the Hornets, the OHSAA playoffs didn't start until 1972. Cory-Rawson has been to those playoffs three times, including back-to-back appearances in 2002 and 2003 and another in 2009. Cory-Rawson is 3-3 in the postseason.INTERESTING FACT: Cory-Rawson did not put any hardware in the trophy case last season, but for the second straight year the Hornets did have the Blanchard Valley Conference regular-season rushing champion. Stauffer earned that award in 2018 when he rambled for 1,513 yards. Last year, Davis claimed the BVC rushing title with 1,253 yards in 10 games. Davis rushed for 11 touchdowns, with his final one being noteworthy in more ways than one. First, it came with 1:18 left in the fourth quarter of Cory-Rawson's final game and clinched the Hornets' 12-7 win over Van Buren. Second, the win gave C-R a final record of 2-8.
