L-B routs Woodmore in boys soccer opener

ELMORE – Nate Garcia scored three goals and Elijah Arredondo and Nick Schloemp added two each as Liberty-Benton opened its boys soccer season on Saturday with an 11-1 romp over Woodmore. Gabe Hardy-Fowler and Ben Garcia had a goal and an assist each in the romp. Austin Kern and Ian Rath also scored for L-B, which led just 3-1 at the break before pumping in eight second-half goals. Woodmore managed just one shot on goal. Wildcats' goalie Jesse Lattea stopped just seven of L-B's 18 shots on net. Nolan Hoffman broke a 1-1 tie with a goal in the 31st minute of play. Justin Good sealed the deal with back-to-back goals in the 49th and 50th minutes. Jonathon Schriner and Kaden Basil scored the other goals for Bluffton, which staged a remarkable run to the 2019 Division III state championship game. The Pirates beat Riverdale 1-0 in overtime in the district final, Fairview 2-1 in two overtimes in the regional semifinals, Ottawa Hills 4-2 in a shootout in the regional championship game and Canfield South Range 2-1, again in two overtimes, in the state semifinals. The first of Chisholm's three goals came at the 9:01 mark of the first half. Kempf then scored her first goal at 9:09 and the Hornets, who outshot Lima Senior 22-0, were off and running. Brynn Reese, Libby McVetta, Paige McVetta, Katie Bish, Evelyn Waltz and Mackenzie Schimmoeller had C-R's other goals. Paige McVetta also had two assists.
