McComb mayor, 2 councilwomen resign

McCOMB — McComb Mayor Charles Latta resigned his position effective Sunday, while council president Cathy Schroll and vice president Brenda Mygrant each resigned their positions, effective Aug. 21. Village council's regular meeting Monday began but was quickly adjourned after council was unable to elect a president, according to village administrator Jamie Mehaffie. Council president would typically fill the mayor's vacancy, but the Ohio Revised Code requires the mayor to preside over council meetings. Without a mayor, there could not be a meeting. An email to council from Latta was received Aug. 17: "It is after much consideration that I have decided to tender my resignation as Mayor of the Village of McComb effective August 23, 2020. I want to thank the village residents for this opportunity to serve the past 4.5 years." In a phone interview this week, Latta said he is seeking a board position on the Northwestern Water and Sewer District board, Bowling Green, and cannot hold elected office as a member of the water and sewer board. He said he has enjoyed his time as mayor. Separate emails were received from Schroll and Mygrant on Aug. 21: "Please accept my resignation as President of the McComb Village Council effective immediately," said Schroll. "Effective immediately please accept my resignation as Vice President of the McComb Village Council," said Mygrant. Neither councilwoman could be reached for comment. Both will remain on council but won't hold the officer positions, which are selected by a vote of the six councilpersons. The next regularly scheduled council meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 14 in the municipal building, 210 E. Main St.
