Grants totaling $210K awarded locally

The Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation has approved grants totaling $210,237 to local entities. Responsive grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations that seek to meet community needs and match the goals, objectives and priorities of the Community Foundation. Grantseekers must submit a written grant proposal for consideration. Applications are reviewed four times per year. Funding for responsive grants comes from the Community's Endowment, made up of funds for the common good and field of interest funds established by donors at the Community Foundation. The following responsive grants were approved: • Findlay City Schools was awarded $4,500 to assist with the purchase of 25 iPads for the restart of school during the coronavirus pandemic. • Findlay-Hancock County Public Library was awarded $3,000 for New Perspectives, a monthly book studies for community discussion. • Hancock County Educational Service Center was awarded a grant up to $50,000 pending CARES Act funding to help provide medical assistants to county schools (Arcadia, Cory-Rawson and McComb) that do not have a nurse/medical support on-site during the pandemic. • Miracle League of Findlay was awarded $10,108 to build two all-weather shade structures at the Miracle League Field to aid in social distancing for a high-risk population. • The Community Foundation was awarded $20,000 for additional advocacy support related to priority areas. The foundation will extend its contract with Williams Nonprofit Consulting to provide additional advocacy support to Hancock County coalitions during the pandemic. Discretionary grants fund urgent or special requests that are outside of the foundation's various grant cycles. The president of the Community Foundation is allocated an amount each year. These grants typically do not individually exceed $5,000. The following discretionary grants were approved: • Blanchard River Watershed Partnership was awarded $2,500 to create a video for a virtual watershed tour to educate the community about the watershed. • Center for Effective Philanthropy was awarded $2,500 for a second rapid response survey of local grantees to better understand local needs and nonprofit status during the pandemic. • Findlay Hope House was awarded $1,500 to add a Housing Help Line app on the Hancock Helps website and lay the foundation for program structure providing critical rental assistance to stabilize housing during the pandemic. • Hancock Historical Museum was awarded $1,000 to provide a free, drive-in screening of the historical film "Singin' in the Rain" at the Marathon Center for the Performing Arts. • The Community Foundation was awarded $2,000 for local housing coalition members to be part of the Greater Ohio Policy Center's Housing Learning Exchange to learn from other communities in Ohio who are working to address housing issues in their communities. • Toledo Classic was awarded $1,000 for eight local women to attend the Classic's Women's Summit in September as part of the Marathon Classic LPGA Tournament. Thirty-five donor-advised grants were also awarded to 31 organizations. These grants totaled $112,129.
