John F. Cindric Jr.

John F. "Skip" Cindric Jr., age 73 of Findlay, passed away suddenly on Saturday, October 17, 2020, at 3:14 p.m. at the Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay. He was born on October 6, 1947, in Lima, Ohio, to the late John F. and Marjorie E. (née Solt) Cindric Sr. Skip was married to Jean Heringhaus on August 22, 1970. She survives, along with children Chelsey (Bob) Link of Findlay, Jof (Kathleen) also of Findlay, Brae (Kayla) of Chandler, Arizona, and Kieron of Cleveland, Ohio; seven grandchildren: Poppy, Hazel, Cillian, John Francis IV, Leighton, Luke, and Isla; and a sister, Susan (George) Palisin of Berea, Ohio. Skip was a '66 graduate of Findlay High School; '70 graduate of Miami University (BA in Elementary Education); '72 graduate of Bowling Green State University (M.Ed. in Special Education); and '81 graduate of the University of Toledo (Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction: Special Elementary). After completing his undergraduate studies, Skip first taught special education and then spent a decade working for Marathon Oil before finding his true passion: teaching Education and Communications at the University of Findlay, where he helped develop the doctoral program in Education and where he mentored and touched the lives of numerous students over the years. A superfan of the Buckeyes and the Hallmark Channel, Skip looked forward to spending part of every summer in Northern Michigan on Glen Lake, where he ran Skippy's (Unofficial) Ski School and would spend hours lounging on the patio, taking in the beauty of his favorite place on earth. Known for his radiant smile and unwaveringly friendly and warm nature, Skip also enjoyed Scotch, Demets Turtles, Dietsch's banana splits, and enthusiastically supported his children and grandchildren at any number of sporting and arts events. A highlight of the past few years involved a heritage-inspired family trip to Croatia, where Skip, his wife, and their children visited his grandfather's village of birth. Along with his limitless charisma, Skip's children will remember their dad for his infectious laugh, his commitment to cable TV, and the generosity of his Netflix subscription. A practicing Catholic, Skip was a congregant of St. Michael's Church in Findlay. Visitation will be held for family and friends from 2-6 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2020, at Kirkpatrick-Behnke Funeral Home, 500 Lima Avenue, Findlay, and also from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 22, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 750 Bright Road, Findlay, Ohio 45840. A Memorial Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 22, at the main church with Fr. Marty Nassr, celebrant. Masks are required and social-distancing is encouraged for all events.
