Katharine A. Bradie

Katharine Ann (Curtis) Bradie, 69, of Findlay, lived a good life prior to passing away on Monday, October 26th. Kathy, or Kate as she was known in her later years, was born in Columbus, Ohio, to Robert and Rose (Schoenberger) Curtis on November 11th, 1950. After graduating from Perrysburg High School in 1968, she married her childhood friend and sweetheart, Tim Hicks, to whom she was married for 21 years and had two boys whom she loved dearly. In her 40's, she chartered her own path by studying philosophy and Latin at Bowling Green State University, eventually getting her PhD in Philosophy in 2000. During her studies she met and eventually married her life partner, Michael Bradie, in 1999, with whom she shared a wonderful life of traveling, teaching and learning. Kate was a distinguished professor at Heidelberg University in Tiffin, OH, where she taught in the Department of Religion and Philosophy for 15 years. As a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society, she was recognized in 2010 with the Jane Frost Kalnow Professorship in the Humanities in recognition of her commitment to foster educational excellence in humanities, professional accomplishments and dedication to the Heidelberg University community. She was also regularly recognized as a favorite professor by her students, due to her free thinking and engaging style, and occasional bawdy in-class humor. She was survived by her husband Michael; sons Jeff (Annie) Hicks and Tim (Jenna) Hicks; grandchildren Basil, Ellie and Birch Hicks; brothers and sisters, Becky (Charlie) Dorn, Andy Curtis, Robert (Debbie) Curtis and Jennifer (Jim) Hahn. She was preceded in death by her parents, and great friend Don Callen. She was a great teacher, a wonderful mother, loving grandmother and friend to many. She will be very missed. While her passing was caused by lung cancer, the full term of her treatment and passing took place during the COVID pandemic and as such, her last days were spent under the loving care of her husband, but largely isolated. Condolences can be made to her remaining family but will be best served by wearing a mask and listening to scientists and public health professionals during this time of collective suffering. A celebration of life will be held at a time when it is socially safe to do so. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Kate's name to WGTE Public Media.
