Mary Ellen Hartman

Mary Ellen Hartman, 77, of rural Findlay, passed away on Monday, October 26, 2020 at Blanchard Valley Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born on a farm in Delaware Twp., Hancock Co. on August 8, 1943 to the late Harlen and Sophia (Strelakos) Pickett. She was a 1961 graduate of Wharton High School. She attended Ohio State University for 2 years and was a member of the Women's Glee Club, the Symphonic Choir and the Delta Omicron International Music Fraternity. She graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1966 with a degree in Voice and Music Education. She taught music at Glenwood Middle School for two years and one year in Sandusky Ohio city schools before she was married. On Nov. 23, 1969 she married David E. Hartman in Wharton, Ohio. Mary is survived by her husband and their five children, John Hartman of Columbus, Susan Hartman of Nashville, TN, Michael Hartman of Columbus, Kevin (Rachelle) Hartman and William (Taryn) Hartman, both of Arlington; nine grandchildren, Jacob, Morgan, Davin, Harrison, Madeline, Bodhi, Lucas, Hazel, and Mabel; three siblings, Virginia (Marlin) Bishop of Mt. Blanchard, Patricia (Bill) Feister of Findlay and Robert (Nancy) Pickett of Pataskala and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by two siblings, Shirley Herder and James Pickett. Mary grew up in Wharton Ohio and attended the Wharton Methodist Church. From a young age Mary's life was centered around God and her gift of music was displayed both piano playing and singing along with her siblings. Her and her siblings worked very closely with Dorothy Van Buren in the music program of the church. But the joy of her life was her family. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and also visiting her daughter in Nashville. Mary enjoyed living in the country on her husband's family farm. She loved helping her husband with the outside chores and planting flowers, gardening, and riding her bike. She loved having family gatherings, cooking for her family, celebrating birthdays and attending all her kids and grandkids different events from sports, school, church, watching them show their animals at the annual fair, babysitting and spending as much time as she could with her grandchildren. Mary also was a substitute teacher for many years in Hancock County schools. Mary was an attendee of Good Hope Lutheran Church in Arlington Ohio and read her daily bread everyday along with her bible. Mary and David celebrated their 50th wedding Anniversary at Jenera Community Center last year that her children organized for family and friends. Mary was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and will be greatly missed, she was the light of her family. Visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. and masks are required, Friday, November 6, 2020 at Crates Funeral Home, Arlington. Private funeral services for family only will be held at Good Hope Lutheran Church with Pastor Steven Ramsey officiating. Burial will follow in Bishop Cemetery on the Hartman family plot. In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to Good Hope Lutheran Church or to a charity of the donor's choice, the family also would ask for a donation of blood to your local chapter of the American Red Cross to help those in need of transfusions.
