Wyandot County retains Republican commissioner

UPPER SANDUSKY — Voters in Wyandot County approved Republican county Commissioner David T. Courtad on Tuesday to complete an unexpired term. It was the only contested race of elected officials on the ballot in the county. Courtad faced independent Thomas D. Davidson, a write-in candidate, for the unexpired term through Dec. 31, 2022. Courtad received 8,614 votes and Davidson received 1,023 votes, according to unofficial results from the Wyandot County Board of Elections. Courtad was appointed in February by the Wyandot County Republican Central Committee to replace Ron Metzger, who retired. He can seek a full, four-year term during the 2022 election cycle. In the presidential election, 8,248 voters (74.06%) were for Donald J. Trump, while 2,690 (24.15%) voted for Joseph R. Biden. All other county officials were unopposed Tuesday. All are Republicans, except Clerk of Courts Ann K. Dunbar, a Democrat. There were no countywide issues on the ballot, but several issues in townships and villages were decided by voters in those areas. Issues on the ballot included: Wharton: Five-year, 2-mill renewal levy for current expenses, was approved 81 in favor and 49 against. A residential property owner will pay 20 cents for every $100 of appraised (market) value, effective 2021, first payable in 2022. Sycamore: Five-year, 6-mill renewal levy for current expenses, was approved 256 in favor and 149 against. Residential property owners will pay 60 cents for every $100 of appraised (market) value. The tax is effective 2021, first payable in 2022. Salem Township: Five-year, 1-mill renewal levy for fire and emergency medical service protection, was approved with 397 votes in favor and 139 votes against. A residential property owner will pay 10 cents for every $100 of appraised (market) value, effective 2021, first payable in 2022. Mohawk Community Library: Five-year, 0.8-mill renewal levy for current expenses, was approved with 906 votes in favor and 393 against. A residential property owner will pay 8 cents for every $100 of appraised (market) value, effective 2020, first payable in 2021. Casey's Marketing Co., doing business as Casey's General Store, 900 S. Vance St., Carey, was approved for a D-6 liquor permit to sell wine and mixed beverages from 10 a.m. to midnight on Sundays.
