McComb company to handle septic system project

Robin Kershner, doing business as Kershner Excavating, McComb, has been awarded the contract for septic system work at a West Beechwood Road residence. The Hancock County commissioners approved a resolution Thursday for the $10,400 project, funded primarily with a grant. The property owner has paid their 15% portion of the cost. The Environmental Protection Agency, through its Water Pollution Control Loan fund, provides an annual grant to the county for repairs/replacement of home sewage treatment systems. The county contracts for about 20 projects annually. Separately, the commissioners approved a resolution to purchase a 2021 Dodge Durango for the sheriff's department from Reineke Family Dealerships. The cost with trade-ins is about $21,086. The county will trade in eight vehicles no longer needed by the department. The trade-in vehicles are cruisers used for spare parts to keep other vehicles operational. The commissioners also approved an amendment to the food service contract with Aramark Correctional Services, Bucyrus, which provides meals at the Hancock Justice Center. With a lower jail population, the company is serving fewer meals.
